We have been baking for 30 years from scratch to create cakes and homestyle ethnic cookies. Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania is the melting pot of many nationalities and we take pride in our ethnic sweets.  Here you will find scratch baking at its best. We bake for any occasion. On our price list page you can easily get an idea of some of our specialties. Our cookies are baked from the finest ingredients such as pure butter and flavorings, and the finest unbleached flour and sugar. Our cookies not only look wonderful but they taste wonderful.

The Patti Schvabenitz Story

I owe all of my success to my family, first to my parents. Ever since I was a small child I always enjoyed baking. My parents helped fuel my passion by buying me my first oven, The Kenner Easy Bake Oven, my father was my best critic. As I grew older my mother would allow me to use her kitchen and oven as long as I promised to clean up after myself.

Years later I married, shortly after my husband Daniel and I had our first child, Daniel got laid off from J & L Steel so I put my love for baking to work for our family on a part time basis baking cookies. My husband lovingly handed me his unemployment check so I could purchase cake pans. It was those pans and a small level that helped me to build a successful wedding cake and cookie business. Those same pans and level share my work space today!

Because of the economy many women had to return to the work force leaving little time to bake cookies. The economy provided me with an opportunity to build a successful business, provide financial support to my husband and gave me the opportunity to stay home and raise our two children Nicole and Nicholas.

After 15 years of operating a home based business with the support of my husband and daughter Nicole, we opened Patti’s Pastries Bakery Café’ on November 24, 1996. We were forced to close three years later due to my husband’s work injury. We moved the business back home and today still operate a successful home based bakery business specializing in Wedding Cakes and Cookies. We have also been servicing corporate cliental with cookie trays for customer appreciation gift giving and also fund raisers for schools and other organizations.

I believe in a superior product and in the motto, “You get what you pay for.”


Our products may be a little higher priced than other bakeries but we make it a top priority to search out and use the best ingredients creating a superior product, not only in taste, but also for health. The secret of my 30 years of success is the constant encouragement, self sacrificing love, and support from my family and my obsession and love for baking the “BEST” Wedding Cakes and Cookies.
